Last week was full of excitement as we got to show our new country too Mum and Dad who spent a week in Zambia on their way home from England. After a rough start which included missing the connection from Joburg to Lusaka and lost bags – we got back on track and launched into “show Mum and Dad the highlights of Zambia in a week tour”.
As with Auntie Mare – we managed to cover a fair bit and got to see how both the rich (a few percent) and the poor live (the majority). I think it is fair to say that they experienced a typical week in our lives – 18 hours without water, a couple of power outages, frogs singing you to sleep, a trip to a chart market, a couple of lovely cafes and 2 first world shopping centres, a trip to a very African fruit and vegie market and many trips to the school.
As well we went on Safari for 1 night at Kafue National Park and stayed at Mukambi Lodge (in the tents).
Here is a link to the website if you want to look it up -
http://www.mukambi.com/. On our game drive and boat cruise we got to see many animals, including for the first time – lions (the ones we saw in the first week were in a private game reserve), wild dogs (which apparently are very rare), elephants, hippos, warthogs, antelope, crocodile, monkeys and a number of different birds.
It was a fun week and there were many tears at the airport when we said goodbye – but luckily we will see them next year both in Zambia and Australia.
